Management of Electronic Record
Lectured by : Dr. Rusnah Johare

Based on Langemo (1995) regards records as the 'memory of organization', the 'raw material for decision making', and the 'basic for legal defensibility'..

There are, more other authors that defines the records that based on their studies.
However, to be simple, the phrase of "memory of organization" are enough to show the need of record keeping for any transaction in the organization...
how about personal, as my lecturer said, if you put on some data in the CD (compact disc), or any thumb drive, and you claim it a record, you are wrong, that is no record if you just show the CD or thumb drive or any other gadget that bring your data inside until you has to open it using certain machine to show the information... the CD, thumdrive, or hard disc is only a gadget to carry the information.

Others than that, what are make us to understand more, the definition of record itself are, an account, as of information or facts, set down especially in writing as a means of preserving knowledge. (based on the free dictionary), and the Oxford dictionary stated that, the record is to keep a permanent account of facts or events by writing it down, filming then, storing then in a computer) yet, our lecturer still said that, keeping your record in the computer are not the record until you open it...
She also claim that, paper record is the most record, because we can see it directly and it can be readable, archival and relevant.

Then whole class get confuse, and one of us asking her, "it is so, why should we take this subject and learn this electronic records management?"

The answer are simple, "I need to tech you how to manage this electronic record, because most of organizations know to use the electronic record but do not know how to manage it".

After some arguing, then we understand, in this rapid changing of technology, the need to keeping the information as a record are very important, is there are no record, looks like a man with out a memory >> he will lost, and don't even recognize himself.

At the end of the class, we are really happy with the input she gave to us, she really sharing the knowledge she had.

As I had said this subject herd like a boring matter, but after combine the class and the lecturer it was an interesting subject.

I like it.
